VR lens evaluation criteria

1. Clear image
(1) High MTF value
Photo enthusiasts may be familiar with the MTF curve, which is called ModulaTIon Transfer FuncTIon, a measure of the effect of a lens on an image through a mathematical function. MTF is a normalized value that reflects the ability of the lens to reduce the object. The higher the value, the better the lens quality.

Several common standards for photography enthusiasts to reflect the quality of the lens image for MTF values ​​are:
1. The closer the MTF value is to 1, the better the MTF line is.
2. The higher the thick line (the red line in the above picture), the better the contrast of the lens.
3. The higher the thin line (the blue line in the above figure), the better the resolution of the lens.
4. The flatter the MTF curve, the smaller the imaging gap between the edge and the center
5. The closer the solid line and the dotted line are, the better the out-of-focus imaging of the lens is.
Different types of VR devices have different modules, but even the simplest VR box requires an optical module, which is the performance that users experience most directly. In terms of component quality, the MTF is versatile for optical components.
(2) Small aberration
The aberration (OpTIcal aberraTIon) reflects the deviation of the theoretical imaging from the actual imaging of the lens (or lens combination). In optical system design, it is an important indicator to minimize the phase difference.
(3) Large aperture
This refers to the numerical aperture of the lens. The larger the numerical aperture, the higher the spatial resolution of the lens and the brighter the image. However, the shallower the depth of field, the easier it is to introduce aberrations.
2. Good immersion
(1) FOV is large
FOV (Field of view) refers to the field of view of the lens, that is, the range of object space that can be observed through the lens. Converting by focal length or other object distance parameters is what we often say. The larger the field of view, the better the immersion.
(2) Consistent clarity
The image quality is uniform and the user will not "play a second."
3. Small distortion
Distortion is actually one of the "aberrations" we mentioned in the previous article. It is generated due to the vertical deviation of the object from the main optical axis of the lens. Different lens focal lengths make imaging susceptible to different distortions.
The smaller the distortion, the less it is corrected and the less the loss of sharpness.
